Inilah album live bernuansa Americana yang dimainkan pasangan Dave Matthews, musisi kelahiran Johannesburg Afrika Selatan dan gitaris underrated kelahiran Jerman Tim Reynolds. Keduanya memang sudah sejak lama terlibat dalam kerjasama musikal. Reynold sering membantu album dan tur konser Dave Matthews Band. Sebelum merilis album “Live At Radio City Music Hall”, baik Matthews dan Reynold pernah melakukan hal serupa dalam album “Live At Luther College” di tahun 1999. Yang menarik, keduanya adalah multi-instrumentalis yang mumpuni.
Dibuka dengan akustik blues bertajuk “Bartender” dalam durasi mendekati 8 menitan. Matthews meradang. Reynold tak kalah sigap memberi tekstur. Blues sebagai sebuah ritual kenikmatan pun menggerayangi kuping pendengar.
Baik Matthews maupun Reynold memang telah menjadi senyawa. Jelas terdengar, mereka saling isi, saling menyeruak tanpa kecanggungan. Lepas dan cerdas.
Kitapun seolah mendapat versi segar dari Down By The River-nya Neil Young. Tafsir ulang yang dilakukan Matthews dan Reynold mengingatkan saya pada tafsir ulang Buddy Miles terhadap lagu yang sama tapi dengan aura soul R&B. Simaklah petikan Reynolds menjelang coda pada lagu ini yang seolah menuntun pendengarnya ke area lepas gravitasi.

Juga simak adaptasi yang cerkas pada lagu folk legendaris milik Woody Guthrie “This Land Is Your Land”. Atmosfer Americana yang memayungi blues, folk, jazz, Cajun, country jelas tertuang kuat di sebagian isi album yang direkam pada saat pertunjukan keduanya di Radio Music City Hall pada tanggal 22 April 2007.
Matthews dan Reynold memang berhasil membuat arransemen yang pas buat format 2 gitar akustik dan menggantikan fungsi band.
Lagu “Dancing Nancies” dari album “Under The Table and Dreaming” (Dave Matthews Band 1994) yang berdurasi lebih dari 9 menit dan bertempo upbeat mereka mainkan dengan sempurna, dengan spirit rock yang tajam. Lagu ini memang adalah lagu wajib yang sering mereka mainkan dalam konser-konsernya selama ini termasuk dalam album “Live At Luther College” (1999) maupun album “Central Park Concer” (2003). Bagi penggila Jam Band, lagu ini memang merupakan oase yang memupuskan dahaga.
Album yang dikemas dalam 2 cakram padat dengan 26 lagu ini memang pantas anda simak.
